So this morning in smithton a 17 year old was doing a 'gentle pull' out of a hole. Hooked the tow rope over his mates tow ball. Which then sheared off and was then implanted into his head.

Maybe its not a good idea to hook a rope over a tow ball ever....

my point:
he was doing a gentle pull.
the tow ball must have had some sort of defect (it wasnt found). Best to use solid tow points for everything. youve got them, just spend the extra 10secs and use them. Beats losing 1/2 your head.

the paper says it was a gentle pull, but a 8000kg strap to stretch takes around 3000kg of force. so at least that much force was applied b4 the ball failed. id be saying that it was far more than that seeing as the ball was flung the full length of the strap plus some.

dont be a knob, iv been saying for a long time not to use a towball. all im saying here is that it doesnt need to be a faulty ball for it to fail. they are not designed for those forces. faulty or not.
